First, Check Your Immediate Surroundings

As soon as you notice your hearing aid is no longer in your ears, stop moving and tell everyone around you to do the same so it doesn’t accidentally get stepped on. Do a full body check, including of your hair, hood, collar, waistband, then the area around your feet. If you’re on carpet, feel around to make sure you don’t miss it.

Next, Retrace Your Steps

While it can be annoying to be told to retrace your steps when you lose something of value, it can be well worth it to try. Think of everywhere you’ve been between the time you last remember having your hearing aid for sure and the moment you realized you lost it. Revisit those places, looking at the ground along the way. Think extra hard about places you may have taken off a coat or face mask, as hearing aids can easily be pulled out this way.

Then, Report Your Hearing Aid Lost

If you’ve visited any businesses on the day you lost your hearing aid, like R&J Electronics, call and ask if it’s turned up. If not, be sure to leave your name and number and ask them to call you if someone does find it. It doesn’t hurt to call and check in after a day or two in case they forget.

Finally, Call Your Audiologist

Your audiologist may not go out in the world to help you look for your hearing aids, but they can help in other ways. If you have a modern hearing aid, it may be compatible with a smartphone app that has a “find my hearing aid” feature that they can show you how to use. They can also check and see if your manufacturer offers a one-time loss and damage warranty.
