The Dos
Follow the list of what you should do to care for your hearing aids during the winter months below:
- Remove your winter wear carefully. When taking off hats, scarves and sweaters, it can be all too easy to pull out your hearing aids. Be careful when removing these items to avoid losing your devices.
- Have spare batteries on hand. There’s nothing worse than running out of battery when you need it most. Since cold weather can sap your hearing aid batteries faster, we recommend keeping spares with you at all times.
- Store your hearing aids somewhere safe when participating in winter activities. Whether it’s skiing, snowboarding or a snowball fight at Crystal Mountain Resort
- , consider putting your hearing aids somewhere safe to you don’t damage or lose them.
- Let your hearing aids air out. After spending time outdoors, you should open the battery doors of your hearing aids to allow moisture to evaporate.
- Purchase a dehumidifier. If your devices do get wet, store them in a dehumidifier to dry them out safely.
The Don’ts
It’s just as important to know what not to do with your hearing aids as it is to know what you should do. Follow our list of what to avoid below:
- Don’t store your devices, batteries or chargers in the car. Cold weather can sap battery power and leave you stranded.
- Don’t put your hearing aids in a heated drying system. Heat can be extremely damaging to your devices.
- Don’t forget to keep up on your cleaning routine. As the days grow short, it can be difficult to stick to your regular routine. Even so, you should take care to continue cleaning your devices daily.
- Don’t worry too much about the cold weather. While cold weather can affect your batteries, it shouldn’t damage your devices. Don’t avoid going outside just for the sake of your hearing aids, as long as you’re taking proper precautions against moisture.
